Early on the morning of March 18 on NASA's Messenger probe will be inserted into Mercury's orbit about 200 km. altitude. From this orbit, where it will remain at least a year, establish a complete map of the small planet revealing details of its surface that have not been observed before. It so happens that these days are especially favorable for observing Mercury with the naked eye, from the northern hemisphere.
The NASA's MESSENGER spacecraft was launched from Cape Canaveral on August 3, 2004.
This is the first time a spacecraft is located in the orbit of the small planet, because the previous mission (Mariner 10) just made a series of three approaches in the years 1974 and 1975.
